EVERYBODY EATS! Be a part of the food committee to better understand what it is we’re putting in our bodies and how what we eat affects the world around us. Goals: The Food committee attempts to communicate to the student body the environmental impact of “food miles,” our meat-eating culture, and agriculture issues that affect the way we feed ourselves (organic options compared to pesticides, soil erosion, ecological harm). 1.Introduce local produce from Adair county farmers into the Sodexho cafeterias. 2.Poll students to better understand their opinions on local organic options. 3.Inform students through tabling and awareness events about CAFOs, industrial food and the alternatives. 4.Generate at least one presentation for the Environmental Studies conference regarding food and agriculture issues. Come by our tabling event outside the SUB (“the mall”) to sample some tasty local choices. Letter writing for clean water! At the next ECO meeting (Oct. 15th, 9pm, BH 252), our committee will be signing letter templates to send to Rep Hulshoff in support of the Clean Water Protection Act (HR 2169) in order to increase awareness about CAFO (confined animal feeding operation) pollution.
